Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Derek Mehraban is a father of two amazing girls (Abby and Lucy), and is married to Amy Pienta, a professor at the University of Michigan.
Mehraban has enjoyed a successful career as a creative marketing professional and leader in the digital marketing industry.
Winner of the 2010 Crain’s 40 Under 40 Award, Mehraban is a frequent speaker at events focused around social media marketing, digital media, and personal improvement. He founded Ingenex Digital Marketing in 2006, and in 2014 founded Fantelope, a Sports Fan Loyalty app designed to engage sports fans like never before.
Mehraban started LA2M, a 501c3 Non-Profit in 2008 that brings 50+ professionals together each week in Ann Arbor to learn about marketing related topics. As co-founder of the New Media Drivers License program in the College of Communication Arts & Sciences at Michigan State University, Mehraban has taught over 1,500 students at Michigan State University since 2008.
Mehraban has also led online and offline marketing efforts for educational, consumer products, healthcare, manufacturing, and B to B clients. Before founding Ingenex in 2006, Mehraban worked at various interactive agencies in creative copywriting and business development.
Mehraban’s book Google This, The New Media Drivers License Resource Guide that he co-authored with Dr. Richard C. Cole is a leading guide to Digital Marketing, and is the text for the class he teaches at Michigan State University on new media marketing.
